AMD’s upcoming RX 9070 series has many gamers eagerly waiting, but the Red Team has been notably secretive about it, especially compared to Nvidia’s RTX 50 series. While leaks have provided some confirmation on its 16GB VRAM and strong 4K gaming performance, pricing remains a critical factor, and so far, we haven’t seen anything concrete.

Previously, we discussed how AMD would need to price its GPUs competitively to entice the RTX 5070 crowd to switch sides. Earlier rumors from Chiphell forums also suggested that the RX 9070 XT reference card could cost $479; $70 less than the RTX 5070 MSRP. However, it seems this information may no longer hold, as a new leak hints that the $479 price tag was incorrect, and the updated pricing could raise some eyebrows.

RX 9070 series rumored to be priced as high as $599

According to new rumors from Chiphell, the RX 9070 series is expected to start at $499 and go up to $599. This means the RX 9070 will possibly have an MSRP of $499, while the RX 9070 XT will be priced at $599. This is a surprising development, especially since earlier rumors suggested a $479 price tag for the XT version.

Now, it seems the XT model will cost $120 more than previously speculated, while the non-XT variant will adopt a $499 price tag. When compared to Nvidia’s 5070 series, this would mean that the RX 9070 is only $50 cheaper, while the RX 9070 XT is actually $30 more expensive. However, AMD cards are still favorably priced versus Nvidia’s Ti and non-Ti variants comparatively.

GPUPrice
RTX 5070 Ti$749
RX 9070 XT$599 (rumored)
RTX 5070$549
RX 9070$499 (rumored)

On the plus side, the RX 9070 series may outperform the RTX 5070 in raw performance. A leaked 3D Mark test demonstrated the RX 9070 XT scoring 14,591 points – 1,253 points higher than the RTX 4080 and 497 points higher than the RTX 4080 Super. Additionally, enthusiasts critical of the RTX 5070's limited 12GB VRAM have highlighted the RX 9070 series' superior 16GB VRAM, which is more suited to handling the demanding needs of modern AAA titles. However, with this latest pricing information, it's doubtful that these small performance uplifts will be enough to convince gamers to accept a $599 price tag.

AMD RX 9070 series pre-orders could go live soon

Initially, when it came to pricing for the RX 9070 series, we didn't have exact numbers. However, we assumed AMD would aim to overshadow the RTX 5070, not just with impressive raw performance but also with exceptional value. As expected, AMD seems to be sticking to its usual strategy of pricing its GPUs less than Nvidia’s counterparts.

Rumors suggest that preorders for the RX 9070 series could begin on January 23rd, which might confirm whether these price figures are accurate. For now, we recommend taking this information with a grain of salt, as AMD could end up shooting themselves in the foot if they proceed with such pricing.
