A new month means a new Steam survey, and there’s another shake-up in GPU rankings. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the RTX 5070 in the top spot, but it has reclaimed its title as the most popular graphics card on Steam, at least for the time being. The current-gen 12GB card has dethroned the RTX 3060, with ownership jumping a notable 2.38% compared to last month’s results.

Along with the RTX 5070, many of the mainstream 50-series GPUs enjoy a boost, though the same can’t be said for the entry-level RTX 5050 or the flagship RTX 5090. We’ve seen the price of the latter grow to extortionate levels as memory shortages remain a problem, so there’s no real surprise there.

As seen in the September results, RTX 50 series cards occupy the top three spots as more and more users upgrade to the latest generation. The series offers exclusive access to Dynamic Multi Frame Generation (up to 6x mode), as well as official support for DLSS 5, though Nvidia has already confirmed upcoming RTX 40 series support, and gamers have been modding it on a wide range of GPUs regardless.

Despite the RTX 5070 sitting at the top of the pack, 12GB VRAM is far from the most popular choice among gamers these days. Market share for 16GB graphics cards continues to climb and retains the number one spot after overtaking 8GB a couple of months ago.

  • 16GB VRAM: 27.21% (+0.29%)
  • 8GB VRAM: 26.71% (+0.97%)
  • 12GB VRAM: 13.06% (+0.07%)

Both AMD and Nvidia offer 16GB versions of their mid-range cards, and gamers have been favoring them over 8GB. However, rising costs for higher VRAM models do seem to have slowed down their sales momentum. Anything 6GB or below continues to fall off.
