The start of March means there’s more Steam survey data to explore, and the results are in for February 2026. According to the survey, there’s a new most popular GPU on Steam – the RTX 5070. This 12GB graphics card has proven to be a top pick for gamers in the RTX 50 series, now representing 9.42% of all GPUs on Steam. RTX 4060 sits in second with a share 7.46%.

We’ve been looking forward to the latest results after Valve announced some changes to the hardware survey last week; systems with multiple GPUs will now report the one with the most VRAM, and a bug that caused “some graphics cards” to report VRAM incorrectly had been fixed. So, we should enjoy more accurate graphics card results from here on out.

With the RTX 5070 on top, it’s a sudden switch from the back-and-forth we’ve seen between the RTX 4060 and 3060 in recent months, and an indication that gamers want more VRAM. That notion can also be backed up by the growing amount of popularity for 16GB cards, as seen in the stats below. This growth may be attributed to the changes made by Valve addressed in its February 24th beta client, though, as a beta update, this may not have reached the majority of users yet.

Even though 8GB cards are still the most popular, their market share is slowly falling. Demanding, modern AAA titles have become more and more memory-intensive, even at lower settings, so it’s no surprise to see these more budget-friendly cards losing traction in the grand scheme of things. That being said, the RTX 4060 and 5060 are firmly in second and third place for overall GPU usage, and both of those only come with 8GB of memory.

Nvidia introduced a 16GB model for the RTX 4060 Ti and continued that design for the RTX 5060 Ti – for the latter, retailer stats from around the time of launch made it obvious that gamers are favoring the 16GB variant, especially since it was only $50 extra. It was a similar affair with AMD’s RX 9060 XT, and Intel jumped straight to 10GB for its cheapest current-gen card, the Arc B570.
