Developers from Capcom working on Monster Hunter Wilds were due to give a lecture on optimization and the process of “making Monster Hunter Wilds run smoothly” at CEDEC this year. Safe to say that once word of this got out, fans weren’t too impressed – especially since the game has ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ reviews on Steam, primarily because of performance issues. The lecture, which was due to take place later this month, has now been canceled after devs faced potential threats.

CEDEC (Computer Entertainment Developers Conference) 2025 is one of the largest annual conferences in Japan for game developers and it is taking place between July 22 and July 24 in the city of Yokohama.

Optimization lecture for MH Wilds gets canceled

The lecture, which was set to be led by a couple of engineers on Wilds (previously named, but now removed presumably due to backlash), was due to go ahead on the 24th. explaining the “performance tuning” done to the game, specifically the PC version.

Within the lecture’s description, we can see that three key aspects were to be covered: CPU load, GPU load, and memory usage. The developers have also addressed game stability issues in a recent post on X, highlighting some optimizations made in the recent Title Update 2 patch that released on June 30th.

It feels like leading with the title “Making “Monster Hunter Wilds” run smoothly!” didn’t do them any favors, especially since the game even struggled to run on the popular RTX 3060 in the game’s benchmark tool. As for the Steam Deck, we say don’t bother.

Even so, this doesn’t justify for any kind of harassment – and Capcom has made that clear. A recent post on the Capcom website which seems to be in reaction to backlash details that the company can take legal action against “customer harassment,” in other words, harassment from customers towards its developers. Translated, the post notes that Capcom has “confirmed some instances” of “threats to harm or disrupt business” and “harassment against our executives and employees”.

We do have a guide for the best Monster Hunter Wilds PC settings if you want to maximize your framerate; we tested the game using a Ryzen 5 5600X / RTX 3080 rig, for reference. But it’s clear that the game still needs much better optimization if it wants to regain a positive rating on Steam.
