Capcom’s latest financial report highlights just how important the PC platform has become for one of Japan’s biggest game publishers. According to the company’s most recent securities report, Steam generated significantly more revenue for Capcom than PlayStation during the last fiscal year. And this isn’t the first time Capcom’s PC game sales have overshadowed console.

For the fiscal year that ended in March 2026, Capcom reported approximately 40.4 billion yen in revenue from Steam. That works out to around $252 million and represents 20.7% of the company’s total revenue across all of its businesses. In comparison, revenue generated through Sony’s PlayStation ecosystem came in at roughly 20.7 billion yen, or around $129 million, accounting for 10.6% of total revenue. In other words, Steam brought in nearly twice as much revenue as PlayStation during the year.

PC gaming is a big money maker for Capcom

The figures are another sign of how dramatically the gaming market has changed over the past decade. There was a time when many Japanese publishers treated PC releases as secondary projects, often launching games months or even years after their console versions.

Today, however, simultaneous PC launches have become increasingly common, and companies are seeing the benefits. Both Sony and Xbox have revealed their plan to return to exclusives with their first-party game releases, but we don’t imagine Capcom will follow a similar path.

Capcom’s strong Steam performance isn’t entirely surprising. Earlier this year, the company revealed that PC sales now account for roughly half of its total game sales. With Steam serving as the largest PC gaming storefront in the world, it naturally plays a major role in that success.

Another factor is the growing importance of digital distribution. Unlike physical releases that typically see sales slow down after launch, digital games can continue generating revenue for years through discounts, bundles, and seasonal sales. This allows older titles to keep contributing to a publisher’s earnings long after their original release date.

Games from popular franchises such as Monster Hunter Wilds, Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 4, and Street Fighter 6 continue to attract players on PC, helping Capcom build a large catalog that generates ongoing revenue. While Steam’s share of revenue was actually lower than the previous fiscal year, it still remains Capcom’s largest disclosed platform by a considerable margin.
