Concord has had nothing short of a turbulent pre-launch. The game was previously declared “dead on arrival” following backlash and fairly disappointing open beta numbers. Well, that narrative continues to be widespread online. Just go ahead and check out any recent PlayStation posts on X related to the game; comments such as “I think this game is going to fail” and the ever-so-constructive “Concord sucks boooo!!!!” don’t exactly paint a pretty picture.

Swiftly moving on, we want to be a little more positive regarding its launch, which happens on August 23rd – in other words, today. We’ve been browsing reviews on the Steam Store page and are pleasantly surprised to see that the response is very positive. It seems like the people who actually took the time to play the game are quite happy with it.

Concord currently has a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam

At the time of writing, there are plenty of pre-release reviews to take a look at, the majority of which are positive. We would have expected a review bomb just from reading the discourse online leading up to the launch, but that hasn’t happened at all. It is worth noting however that the game is not free to play, it comes with a $40 price tag. That might help deter any mass negative reviews, though we suppose it should technically be possible when followed up by a quick refund if you really want to show hatred for the game.

That price is pretty steep these days for a multiplayer title, especially when you compare it to the likes of Overwatch 2 (which is of course F2P), with many people calling for Concord to follow suit if it wants to see any success. As for player numbers, we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out in the long run, especially as we head into the weekend.
