Discord launches physical gift cards in six countries, ranging from $15 to $150

Discord has introduced a new way for users to purchase subscriptions, customize their profiles, and unlock other paid features on the platform. The company has officially launched Discord gift cards (in physical form), which are now available through selected retailers in various regions.

According to the official announcement, Discord gift cards are currently available in six countries: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Spain. Users can purchase them from participating physical stores or online retailers, with more locations expected to be added over time. The launch comes just a few months after Steam ditched its physical gift cards.

Where to find and how to redeem physical Discord gift cards

In the United States, the cards are available through popular retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop. Discord has also confirmed that they are rolling out through Micromania in France, Gamelife in Italy, and GAME in Spain. On top of that, buyers can select from preset amounts or choose their own amount where supported. Digital gift cards are also available, allowing users to send a code directly to someone through email.

As for what the cards can be used for, Discord is giving users several options. Once a gift card is redeemed, the money is added to the user’s Discord account balance. This balance can then be used to purchase Discord Nitro memberships, which offer benefits such as improved streaming quality and larger file uploads.

Users can also spend their balance in the Discord Shop, where they can purchase avatar decorations, profile effects, nameplates, and profile frames. Other options include purchasing Server Boosts to unlock additional benefits for communities, buying in-game items from supported Game Shops, or gifting Nitro and Shop items to friends.

However, there are a few important restrictions buyers should know about. Discord gift cards are region-locked, meaning they can only be redeemed on accounts set to the same country where the card was purchased. The exception is cards purchased in France, Italy, or Spain, as these use euros and can be redeemed in other countries that use the same currency.

Another limitation is that gift card balances currently cannot be spent directly through Discord’s Android or iOS apps. Instead, users need to access Discord through the desktop application or a web browser. Those using a smartphone can still open Discord in their mobile browser to make purchases, and any purchased items will remain available across their devices.

To redeem a gift card, users can visit discord.com/redeem, sign in to their account, and enter the code provided with their physical or digital card. Physical cards also include a QR code that takes users directly to the redemption page. That said, Discord has warned users to purchase cards only from authorized retailers and avoid sharing redemption codes with others. Once a balance has been added to an account, it cannot be transferred to another account.
