A new battery mod for the ASUS ROG Ally will soon be offered by JSAUX, promising to extend playtime significantly. A YouTube video provides a sneak peek of what users can expect when it goes on sale.

Imagine you are on a train or a plane playing Baldur's Gate 3 on your ASUS ROG Ally when suddenly you get a notification that you are almost out of battery. You still have a long way to go on your journey, but unfortunately, your main source of entertainment needs to be charged. This sort of problem might soon be a thing of the past thanks to an upcoming battery mod from JSAUX. At the time of writing, the upgrade kit is listed as Coming Soon on the product listing.

New ROG Ally battery mod tested ahead of release

The mod has already been tested by YouTuber ETA Prime, who posted a video showing the install process, along with an extensive battery test to demonstrate the new longevity of the device. The stock version of the ASUS ROG Ally comes with a 40W battery, which many users feel is a bit small for the demands placed on it by intense games.

The JSAUX mod includes a 65Wh battery along with a thermal upgrade kit and back plate, all of which have been designed specifically for the ASUS ROG Ally. This is an upgrade to the original model’s 40Wh battery; for reference, the ROG Ally X features an 80Wh battery. In further good news for Ally owners who like to tinker, the battery mod is compatible with the 2280 SSD adapter mod.

ETA Prime described the installation of the mod as “Probably the easiest one on the market right now, and it comes with everything you need,” which is great for those who are less technically minded who still want to upgrade their device.

Testing showed that the battery mod significantly improved battery life. Running Forza Horizon 5, the play time went from 1 hour and 35 minutes with the stock battery up to 2 hours and 40 minutes with the JSAUX battery mod. With a chunky battery and the prospect of installing SteamOS, the ASUS ROG Ally starts to emerge as a true competitor to the Steam Deck.
