Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 8 update helps put all your most important mods in one place

Table of Contents
In the lead up to Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 8 (which still doesn’t have an official release date), people have been worried about their mods being broken by the update. While we’re sure there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes to minimize this where possible, it seems inevitable that some major mods will be affected. Despite this hurdle, patch 8 will be a great thing for modding, as it represents a new era of BG3 modding now that developer Larian will be shifting its focus to other projects.
So far, we’ve seen some great quality of life changes to the mod manager, such as a single-button option to enable all your mods. This is thanks to users getting early access to patch 8 via the ongoing stress tests. And now, there’s another, as mods with ‘External Dependencies’ are now in one place.
Baldur’s Gate 3 mod manager adds ‘External Dependencies’ filter
There are many Baldur’s Gate 3 mods that depend on another mod (or mods) to function, and if you end up uninstalling one of these dependencies, then you could end up breaking a whole list of mods you never intended to mess with. There are also external tools such as the Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender, which isn’t exactly a mod itself, but enables even further customization to create even bigger and better mods – many of these are extremely popular.

Mods that rely on external tools like the script extender are now categorized by the new ‘External Dependencies’ filter. This is an important change if you are worried about breaking any of these important mods while messing around with external tools or other dependencies – you can see exactly what will be affected. The filter doesn’t seem to be working 100% at the moment, so we’ll have to wait and see what else this filter picks up in the next patch; the most recent was Stress Test Update #3.

In the meantime, we’re particularly looking forward to custom campaigns for BG3, namely Path to Menzoberranzan and The Grand Theater, the former of which has voice acting talent.
