FSR 4 is AMD’s latest version of its AI upscaling technology, and until FSR Redstone comes out later this year, its flagship model. Currently, FSR 4 is only compatible with RDNA 4 graphics cards, namely the RX 9060 and RX 9070 series, including Team Red’s top-spec RX 9070 XT. Rumor has it that FSR 4 is coming to RDNA 3 and 3.5 – which means support for the RX 7000 series.

However, it seems that’s where the support will stop. RDNA 2 or older models are unlikely to get support for FSR 4, and rumors point towards there being no resources working towards that right now, even if it were possible.

FSR 4 for RDNA 3 and RDNA 3.5 graphics cards, including the PS5 Pro?

Based on information from YouTuber and well-known leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead, FSR 4 on RDNA 3 “hasn’t been canceled” and is reportedly a priority for AMD, alongside improving the software in general and preparing for FSR Redstone. Porting FSR 4 to PS5 Pro is also said to be in the works. As for a release window, MLID suggests Q4 2025 or Q1 2026. The latter would line up nicely with an announcement during CES 2026 in January, which AMD is already confirmed for.

Bringing FSR to the older generation of graphics cards would be a massive boost for anyone still running an RDNA 3 system. Especially when the 7000 series’ flagship RX 7900 XTX still holds up versus the current RX 9070 XT, not to mention with more VRAM than the 9000 series model. For anyone running one of the top 7000 series cards, FSR 4 is one of the main reasons to upgrade to the latest generation, but if AMD is close to finishing the port, then you might as well wait around for the upgrade.
