Humble Bundle has built a strong reputation over the years as a fantastic place to buy game bundles at low prices. Many players prefer it because the bundles come with Steam keys that can be redeemed whenever they want. But lately, things have taken a strange turn, as more and more users are discovering that some of their old unredeemed Steam keys no longer work. Even worse, many of those keys are now being replaced with Epic Games Store or GOG versions without any warning.

This issue seems to have been brewing for months, but it recently exploded after a Reddit post gained huge attention. Users noticed that games they bought long ago, either through classic Humble Bundles or monthly Humble Choice, no longer provide Steam keys. Instead, they now show Epic activations or a simple “exhausted” message.

Humble’s Steam keys reportedly expire sooner than expected

The biggest concern is that none of these changes are being communicated. Humble is not sending emails, notifications, or alerts when a Steam key runs out or gets replaced with an Epic Games version. There’s no message saying a key might disappear soon. Steam keys are often the preferred version among gamers, and customers argue that this is not what they originally paid for.

What makes the situation more serious is the amount of community evidence piling up. A GitHub tracker created by a user is already listing several confirmed cases of Steam keys being replaced with Epic ones. On top of that, more than a hundred games from past Humble Choice months now show exhausted Steam keys, which means users can’t redeem them at all, even though the games are still listed in their Humble accounts.

This isn’t the first time Humble has run into key shortages, but the way things were handled in the past was very different. Years ago, when a game ran out of Steam keys, Humble explained what was happening. Sometimes they offered a GOG coupon or a similar option to make up for the issue. But the current situation is happening quietly. Some games have had their Steam keys fully deactivated, and even Humble support can’t restore them.

For now, the only advice for Humble customers is simple: redeem your keys as soon as possible. Waiting might mean losing access to the version you expected. We’re hoping Humble will address this soon and bring back clearer communication before more keys disappear silently.
