Gears of War E-Day is finally back online, after The Coalition confirms targeted DDoS attack
Vancouver-based developer of Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition, has confirmed a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on its online services following reports from players experiencing “intermittent disconnects, login issues, or other service disruptions”. The latest entry to the popular franchise was released last week following a short early access period.
Players experienced issues accessing the game’s online services, including multiplayer modes such as Horde Siege and Versus. E-Day has enjoyed seemingly great success early on (with most players reporting joining in through Xbox Game Pass). Despite divided opinions, there have been rave reviews; either way, politics surrounding the game shouldn’t call for a malicious DDoS attack.
The Coalition confirms service disruptions are due to DDoS
Some players continued to report issues with the game’s servers around the time The Coalition confirmed the DDoS attack earlier today/last night, depending on your timezone, but a quick look at the Gears of War: E-Day server status page tells us everything should be back to normal. All online services are currently reported as “healthy”.

This covers the following online services: login, matchmaking, store, post-match, and progression across all regions – for both Xbox and Steam player bases. With servers back online across servers in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South America, any Gears of War: E-Day player should be able to continue playing online without a problem.
Unfortunately, we have seen reports of potential data loss as a result of the DDoS attacks, including from player @Aedrothica, who says a couple of collectibles failed to register after the servers came back online. The Coalition has yet to provide an update after confirming the DDoS attack.
