The Google Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL are coming soon, and thanks to leaks, we now know almost everything about them (though be sure to take this information with a grain of salt). While these are Google’s top-end phones, the new specs show that there isn’t a lot to get excited about if you already own a Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL.

According to the specifications leaked by Android Headlines, the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL will keep the same display sizes as last year – 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.8 inches for the Pro XL. Both phones use LTPO displays with up to 120Hz refresh rate and a very bright 3,000-nit peak brightness. The screens and backs are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, just like the previous models.

The phones will come with Google’s new Tensor G5 chip, which is made by TSMC and built on newer 3nm tech. This should make the phones a little faster and more power-efficient. You’ll also get 16GB of RAM in both models, which is the same as last year. Storage options will be similar, too. The Pixel 10 Pro will offer 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, while the Pro XL drops the 128GB option and starts at 256GB.

The camera setup hasn’t changed much either. You’ll still get a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultrawide, and a 48MP 5x zoom lens. The front camera stays at 42MP. Google has added macro modes to the ultrawide and zoom lenses, which may help with close-up shots, but the hardware remains the same.

The battery life will be slightly better, as the Pixel 10 Pro will have a 4,870mAh battery, and the Pro XL will go up to 5,200mAh, the biggest battery ever in a Pixel. For comparison, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL have 4,700mAh and 5,060mAh batteries, respectively. Charging speeds are also getting a small upgrade: 29W for the Pro and 39W for the Pro XL. Both phones will support 15W wireless charging with Qi2.

Should you upgrade?

If you already have a Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphone, you probably don’t need to upgrade. The changes are very small. The new processor may be faster, and the battery is a bit larger, but the design, display, and cameras are almost the same. In fact, it’s surprising to see that Google didn’t improve the camera hardware, since it’s something the Pixel phones are known for.

Unless you really need a bit more storage or slightly faster performance, the Pixel 10 Pro series might not offer much for current Pixel 9 owners. However, if you’re using an older Pixel, like a 6 or 7, this could be a great time to upgrade. For those wondering, Google is expected to officially reveal the Pixel 10 series on August 20, with the phones becoming available on August 28.
