Baldur’s Gate 3’s final major update, Patch 8, dropped a couple of days ago, and just like with previous patches, mod compatibility was affected. The upside this time, though, is that since it's the game's final major update, modders can now focus on long-term fixes without worrying about future updates breaking things all over again.

While some popular mods have taken a big hit and will need updates to function properly, others seem to have made it through Patch 8 without major issues. Even better, as time goes on, more and more mods are being updated to work with the new patch. You can easily see which mods are working with Patch 8 by heading to Nexus Mods or Mod.io and using the “Patch 8 compatible” or “Patch 8 tested” filters to find everything confirmed to work with the latest update.

Most cosmetic mods are safe

While a variety of mods have made it past the Patch 8 issues without showing any major problems, cosmetic mods in particular seem to have come through mostly unscathed, with mods like Bangs Bangs Everywhere and Hair Collection working fine. This might be due to the “Improved Character Creation functionality for modded games” update mentioned in Patch 8’s Stress Test 2 notes, which focused on better compatibility for modifying character creation.

Beyond that, over on the BG3Mods Reddit, user ExcelMandarin has compiled a list of all the working mods along with those that currently break the game. That said, some mods listed as broken, like Mystra Spells, Mystic Class, and Arcane Vanguard, appear to have since been updated. Baldur’s Gate 3 content creator Jay Dunna even showed that they were able to launch the game successfully with the Arcane Vanguard mod enabled.

Avoid using class and subclass mods

As you already know, Patch 8 brings 12 new subclasses to the game (one of each of the main classes), however, some users have reported that the new subclasses are not showing up properly for them. According to Jay Dunna, disabling subclass or class mods should fix the problem, since there's currently no way to guarantee whether these mods are fully compatible until they're confirmed to work with Patch 8. So if you want to try out the new subclasses, your best bet is to disable all your mods and start a fresh playthrough until everything gets the green light.
