Baldur’s Gate 3 remains one of the most popular Western RPGs on PC, and part of what makes this such a fun game is the massive array of mods available for it. We have seen the developers behind the game unlock the full potential of modding in BG3 by giving us official mod support in Patch 7. Most recently, the final major Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3 is said to bring even more content, but there is still no confirmation of when the full update will go live.

However, stress tests have already started to arrive for Patch 8, which gave those participating in the test a chance to try out the much-requested Photo Mode feature. Now, a second stress test update is here, and among the bugs and fixes being ironed out, there are some exciting updates for modders.

Stress test update 2 makes character mods even better

One of the best mods we have seen for BG3 is character mods, and a recent example of this was Henry of Skalitz, the protagonist from Kingdom Come: Deliverance and its sequel, which one modder brought into the world of Faerun. With this mod, players could put Henry of Skalitz’s head and hair onto Human Body Type 2 and take him on adventures alongside other companions.

Modding

  • Fixed a bug causing the Mod Verification window to appear empty and preventing you from closing it if you get a warning about insufficient storage before it opens.
  • You can now navigate between the left and right columns of the Installed tab in the Mod Manager with a controller.
  • Improved Character Creation functionality for modded games.
  • The Mod Verification window will now also appear on PC for console-related mod issues to account for cross-play.

This is exactly what the latest stress test update brings with its “Improved Character Creation functionality for modded games,” which will essentially improve how character creation works when using mods. Using mods has a history of breaking the character creation tool, with several examples of this reported online. While we cannot confirm that all mods will play nicely with character creation, it’s a step in the right direction.

This could involve better compatibility with modded races, classes, appearances, or backgrounds, reducing bugs or conflicts that previously occurred when creating a character with mods enabled. It might also give modders more flexibility in modifying character creation without breaking the game.

Crossplay issues have reportedly been addressed

Apart from that, according to the patch notes, the developers have now addressed the issue affecting crossplay. In the first stress test update, the developers stated that they were still investigating instances of crossplay not working as intended, but with the latest update, players will now be able to enjoy crossplay with friends once the update goes live. There's a lot more covered in this update, and we highly recommend checking out the full patch notes to stay caught up on everything coming in Baldur's Gate 3's final major patch.
