AM5 takes the top spot in latest motherboard sales report, and AM4 is still outselling Intel

Table of Contents
We're now halfway through 2025, and AMD continues to dominate the motherboard market. According to the latest sales report from German retailer Mindfactory, AMD boards are still leading the charts in the DIY market, with AM5 motherboards taking the top spot once again.
This isn't really surprising, especially after the launch of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in November 2024, which gave a big boost to AM5 sales. The 9800X3D was later joined by Ryzen 9 X3D chips, and it looks like Team Red’s momentum is still going strong with no sign of slowing down.

AMD continues to dominate the sales charts
TechEpiphany shared the latest motherboard sales data, and the numbers make it abundantly clear that AMD is leading. AMD sold 1,095 motherboards in week 26 (June 23 – June 29) at Mindfactory, while Intel only managed to sell 160. That means AMD had a huge 87.25% market share, leaving Intel with just 12.75%. In terms of revenue, AMD pulled in $190,948, while Intel made $26,191. The average selling price for AMD boards was slightly higher, too, sitting at $174 compared to Intel's $164.

- AMD: 1095 units sold, 87.25%, ASP: 174
- Intel: 160, 12.75%, ASP: 164

By socket

- AM5: 825 units
- AM4: 270
- LGA 1700: 125
- LGA 1851: 35
The most interesting part of the report is the breakdown by socket. AM5 led the pack with 825 units sold, followed by AM4 at 270 units. Intel's LGA 1700 socket only managed 125 units, and LGA 1851, which is compatible with Intel’s latest Core Ultra processors, is even lower. This means that not only is AMD's latest platform selling well, but its older AM4 boards are still more popular than Intel as a whole in the DIY market.
The report also showed which companies are selling the most AMD boards. MSI is far ahead with a massive 77.6% of the sales. ASRock came in second with 11.8%, followed by ASUS at 5.9% and Gigabyte at 4.7%.
When it comes to chipsets, the B650 is the most popular one, with 51.8% of total sales. This makes sense, as the B650 offers great value for most users who want good performance without spending too much. The newer B850 came in second with 23.5%, showing that users are slowly starting to adopt newer options. The older B550 still managed to grab 18.8%, while the high-end X870E chipset made up 5.9% of the sales.
