After being left out of the CES 2026 announcements, AMD said we should “Stay tuned” to hear more about the rumored (at the time) Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. Well, Team Red has finally unveiled this impressive flagship CPU, available next month as the world’s first desktop CPU with dual 3D V-Cache. As you may guess, it’s a follow-up to the 9950X3D and increases total cache capacity.

AMD’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics, Jack Huynh, says he’s “been testing the new unreleased” processor first-hand, calling it an “incredible” chip that pushes the limits of desktop performance even further.

What do we know about the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 so far?

Below, we’ve provided you with a rundown of the key specifications of this new Dual Edition processor. It will be available to purchase on April 22 – just a few weeks from now – and comes with some expected changes to specs when compared to the standard Ryzen 9 9950X3D model, released in March 2025.

“208MB of cache means more game data, more assets, and more working data sittng right next to the CPU cores. That dramatically reduces latency and unlocks new levels of responsiveness across demanding workloads […] You still get the incredible gaming performance you expect from a Ryzen 9 X3D processor, but where the 9950X3D2 really shines is in workloads that thrive on ultra-fast data access.”

Jack Huynh, SVP and GM of Computing and Graphics at AMD

Huynh still calls the recently launched Ryzen 7 9850X3D “the fastest processing in the world for gaming,” while highlighting the more balanced approach of the 9950X3D, which delivers “the ultimate balance of power and versatility” for gaming and productivity workloads.

Of course, the upcoming 9950X3D2 takes that one step further with its new dual design – but you shouldn’t expect any big gains in the gaming department, regardless of the higher 208MB total cache. There’s probably a reason why it’s left out of the official benchmarks above. Huynh highlights the following areas as the biggest winners thanks to dual 3D V-Cache:

  • Large software builds
  • Game engine compiles
  • AI models
  • 3D rendering
  • Complex content creation pipelines
