iPhone 18 Pro benchmarks reveal impressive scores for Apple A20 Pro chip, even outperforming desktop CPUs

Apple’s new A20 Pro chip is already showing some impressive performance in early benchmarks. The processor, which powers the latest iPhone 18 Pro lineup and iPhone Duo, has appeared on Geekbench 7 with a single-core score of 4,006, putting it ahead of many modern processors in these early results, including flagship desktop CPUs from AMD and Intel.
The A20 Pro also achieved a multi-core score of 11,460. Compared to the A19 Pro’s scores of 3,249 and 9,016, respectively, the new chip is around 23% faster in single-core and 27% faster in multi-core performance. These are early benchmark results, however, so they should be treated with some caution until more A20 Pro devices are tested.
Apple A20 Pro even overtakes desktop CPUs
The most interesting part of the results is how the A20 Pro compares with much larger desktop processors. AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D scores around 3,182 in Geekbench 7 single-core testing, while Intel’s Core i9-14900KS manages around 3,024. That puts Apple’s smartphone chip roughly 26% ahead of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 32% ahead of the Core i9-14900KS in single-core performance.

Of course, that doesn’t mean an iPhone processor is faster than these desktop chips overall. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D scores 30,428 in multi-core testing, while the Core i9-14900KS reaches 21,145, leaving the six-core A20 Pro far behind in workloads that can take advantage of many CPU cores.

The A20 Pro also has a significant single-core lead over current flagship smartphone chips. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 scores 3,047, while Xiaomi’s XRing O3 reaches 2,996. Their multi-core performance is much closer, with the XRing O3 actually slightly ahead at 11,777.
A major reason for Apple’s performance jump could be the A20 Pro’s new design. The chip features two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores, with clock speeds reaching 4.93GHz. It is also Apple’s first smartphone processor manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm-class N2 process.
Apple has additionally increased memory bandwidth by 50% compared to the A19 Pro. Combined with the architectural changes and significantly higher clock speeds, this appears to have produced one of Apple’s biggest year-over-year CPU performance improvements in recent generations.
For now, the early Geekbench 7 numbers make the A20 Pro look extremely promising, though we’ll need more benchmark results to see whether these scores remain consistent across retail devices.
