Mass reports today (September 29, 2026) say Claude AI is down for many users around the world. The company behind the popular AI tool, Anthropic, says it is investigating reports and will provide an update “as soon as possible”. According to reports on Downdetector, the majority of users (47%) report issues with Claude Chat, while 39% are having issues with the mobile app, and a further 7% with Claude Code.

While Claude AI may not be as popular as alternatives such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, it still serves as a significant player in the AI chatbot market, particularly when it comes to tasks such as programming/coding. It isn’t the first time we’ve seen Claude services suffer outages, as Anthropic also experienced issues earlier this year, back in March.

Yes, Claude is currently down

As seen on Downdetector, users have been reporting issues with Claude AI services on September 29, 2026, with a spike of nearly 4,000 reports at 2:19 PM UTC, which lines up closely with official reports from Claude Status updates published by Anthropic today. According to reports, users face an error message that reads, “Due to unexpected capacity constraints, Claude is unable to respond to your message. Please try again soon.” Anthropic says it is investigating issues that affect a range of Claude features/platforms.
