Is Reddit down? Latest status reports confirm outage for over 20,000 users
Table of Contents
Reddit is currently experiencing a major outage. The official Reddit Status page lists an unresolved incident as “Investigating elevated site errors” (as of July 16, 08:52 PDT). Attempts to load Reddit (web or mobile) now return errors; users report that home feeds, subreddits, profiles, and threads show “no content” and comments cannot be posted. Outage tracking sites (e.g. DownDetector) show a spike of over 20,000 user reports in the last 15-20 minutes. The RedditStatus account on X (Twitter) likewise tweeted that it is “investigating” the problem. Sadly, no estimate for resolution has been given at this time.

Impacted Services: All major features appear affected. Users cannot load new posts or comment threads; Reddit’s web and mobile apps are largely inaccessible. (In a similar April 2025 outage, roughly 59% of reports were app-related and 29% website.) Login issues are also reported.

Looking at DownDetector’s dedicated Reddit status page also highlights issues for thousands of Reddit users, with over 23,000 users reporting the site being down.
Historical Outages
Reddit has suffered multiple outages over the past year. For example:
- Apr 21, 2025: A global outage (spiking to ~101K reports) was detected around 11 AM ET; Reddit acknowledged it on X and resolved the issue by 12:21 PM ET (~30 min).
- Aug 28, 2024: A site-wide outage (~45 min) caused “Server error. Try again later” banners; Reddit’s status page showed degraded performance, with a fix implemented by ~4:45 PM ET.
- Oct 14, 2024: An hour-long outage left users seeing CDN/server errors; service was fully restored after about one.
These incidents show Reddit’s recent instability. Today’s outage follows that pattern of brief but widespread downtime, though Reddit has not yet given a public post-mortem or ETA.
