JSAUX has been working on custom faceplates for Valve’s Steam Machine, and the company has now updated its product page with more details. The page reveals the pricing, features, and functionality of two different options. While JSAUX has not announced a release date yet, these details give us a much better idea of what buyers can expect.

For starters, the company is offering two versions: an E-Ink Panel and a Pixel Matrix Panel. The E-Ink version will cost $99.99, while the Pixel Matrix model is priced at $89.99. JSAUX has been cooking these for a while now – last month we got an official update that showed improvements to the Dot Matrix (Pixel Matrix) variant, with tidier wiring.

E-Ink and Pixel Matrix displays for the front of your Steam Machine

The E-Ink Panel is the more interesting option for users who want a low-power display that can stay on for long periods. It features a 5.83-inch E-Ink screen and connects to the Steam Machine over Bluetooth. Since E-Ink displays consume very little power when showing a static image, the company says its built-in 500mAh battery can provide up to 16 days of standby time.

The display can be used to show custom images, including photos, characters, pixel art, or other artwork. JSAUX also says it can run in the background across both SteamOS Desktop Mode and Game Mode, allowing users to keep information visible on the front of the system without interrupting their gaming session.

Power is mainly used when the E-Ink display refreshes or sends data, which is why it can remain active for such a long time on a relatively small battery. Users will also be able to control the panel through a companion app. The app can be used to change the displayed content, adjust settings, and install firmware updates.

The Pixel Matrix Panel takes a different approach. It is larger at 7 inches and connects through USB-C, allowing it to receive continuous power. Unlike the black-and-white E-Ink display, it is designed for colorful visuals, live system information, and even custom GIFs. This could make it a better choice for users who want their Steam Machine to have a more dynamic look.

Both faceplates attach magnetically to the front of the Steam Machine and are designed to look like an integrated part of the system. For developers and more advanced users, the company says the panels also support open-source code for creating custom multi-zone layouts.
