JSAUX reveals updated Steam Machine faceplate with a Color Dot Matrix panel, featuring “cleaned up” wiring
We’re starting to see more customization options for the Steam Machine following its late June launch. Popular accessory brand JSAUX was showing off some custom faceplates last month, featuring E-Ink and Dot Matrix panels, and now the company has provided another update on the progress of the latter, with a before-and-after comparison.
Unlike the low-power E-Ink displays, which are fitted with built-in batteries, the more powerful Color Dot Matrix panel from JSAUX relies on external power. This means a short cable that runs between the faceplate and a rear port on the Steam Machine itself. The new and improved prototype now comes with a cleaner wiring setup, thanks to a 90° connector.
Customizable Steam Machine faceplates are getting more creative
JSAUX shared a small update on its X account earlier today, comparing the two different versions and pointing out the new connector type. We still don’t know exactly when these panels will be available for purchase. From its original three designs, the website currently suggests that the Mono E-Ink and Color Dot Matrix models will be the first two to be launched.

Over on its official Discord server, the company also gave us more of a glimpse at what the bright front panel can display. The obvious one for many people may be current system information (such as temperatures or usage), but it’s also capable of showing pixel art, animations, just a clock, and more. One picture shows the panel displaying game information for ‘War Robots’ (presumably this game on Steam), alongside what looks to be current session time and overall playtime.
Now we’re curious: if you had one on your Steam Machine, what would you want it to show?

It was back in July when JSAUX said it was “already cooking” Steam Machine faceplates, along with a fully transparent case. The last time we heard, these designs were set to ship within 2026, and the new update on the Color Dot Matrix panel is a promising sign of strong progress. When announcing its new Voidjoy brand last week, JSAUX said it will be attending IFA in Berlin (taking place on September 4-8), so we hope to see the new faceplates on display during the event.
