Just like ChatGPT, now Grok remembers your conversations too

Elon Musk’s xAI has just announced a new “memory” feature for Grok that allows the AI chatbot to remember details from past conversations with a user. According to the company’s official account on X, “Grok can now remember your previous conversations”, meaning that if you ask Grok for a recommendation, it will now give you more personalized responses depending on how long you have used the bot in order to first “learn” your preferences.
ChatGPT has long had a similar memory feature, which was in fact recently upgraded, allowing the chatbot to “get to know you over your life.” However, unlike ChatGPT’s improved memory, which is only available to paid users, Grok’s memory feature seems to be available for free as part of the standard Grok 3 access on the website or the app.

You can turn Grok’s memory off
Since using the memory feature with any AI chatbot means it saves details and personal information, it's natural for some to have privacy concerns. To address that, xAI has included the option to either turn memory off completely by disabling the “Personalize Grok with your conversation history” setting, or you can remove specific memories using the book icon beneath a message. This lets you see exactly what Grok remembers and choose what to forget.
Interestingly, this isn't the first feature xAI seems to have borrowed from OpenAI's chatbot. Just yesterday, xAI also introduced its Grok Studio, which offers similar functionality to ChatGPT Canvas, but for free. So it seems xAI is differentiating itself by offering these features for free, working technically the same as others, but without the cost.
That said, Grok’s memory feature is currently in beta, so more updates are expected in the future. For now, it's available on Grok.com and through the Grok iOS and Android apps, but not for users in the EU or UK. The feature also isn't available yet within the Grok experience on X, although xAI says support is coming soon.
