The very first Kingdom Hearts game launched way back in 2002, quickly becoming a fan-favorite among PlayStation users. It’s had a fairly confusing list of releases, some of which were exclusive to handheld consoles of old such as the Game Boy Advance and PSP. It finally made its way to the PC platform back in 2021, but only available through the Epic Games Store.
Unfortunately, EGS is not a storefront which is natively accessible on the Steam Deck, but now with a number of titles coming to Steam, users of Valve’s handheld can now easily get in on the Disney x Square Enix action. So far we’ve spotted three listed on the Steam store, but there’s much more under the hood to explore.
Kingdom Hearts series already listed on Steam ahead of release
Like we said, Kingdom Hearts is a series which can get pretty confusing. Mixing iconic Disney characters with Square Enix’s style is sort of strange enough, but we’re talking about the naming conventions. To make it a little simpler though, Square Enix has compiled a number of games into three collections, which we’ve now seen listed as follows (and available from June 13th) on the Steam store:
- KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
- KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC)
If you’re just as confused as us, as to what these names mean, we can explain what each collection includes just below.
KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories
- KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD cutscene compilation)
- KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded (HD cutscene compilation)
KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
- KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD
- KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover (movie)
- KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep
KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC)
- Kingdom Hearts III
- Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind DLC
Why is it good for the Steam Deck?
Originally being designed for consoles – some of them being handhelds, we think that the Kingdom Heart series will be a ton of fun on the Steam Deck. We imagine that many people haven’t thought about this series for a while, especially if you haven’t played it since the PS2 days or didn’t get into the long-awaited third main series entry. With these collections now coming Steam, it’s the perfect chance to pick them up for Deck users.
Furthmore, the system requirements all look like a breeze for Valve’s handheld, and expect controller support to be ready to go. We wouldn’t be surprised to see them Steam Deck verified in no time. Kingdom Hearts III is perhaps the only worry, specs-wise, but we’ve actually seen that someone already got it working on Steam Deck, so it should run perfectly well via the Steam platform.
