Legion Go 77Wh battery upgrade is real, and it’s starting to be tested

There are bound to be compromises made when trying to stuff the components needed to run modern PC games into a shell as small as the Lenovo Legion Go. One of those compromises was the battery. However, mods that offer significantly extended battery life have started to be delivered to Legion Go owners.
Only a few days ago, some Reddit users revealed that a high-capacity battery mod for the Legion Go had been made available on AliExpress. Some users promptly ordered one for testing purposes. As those mods start to be delivered, users are reporting on how well they perform.
Users who received the Battery mod reported better battery life. One reported that after the mod was installed that their Legion Go ran for 3.2 hours using a 15W TDP. This is quite an improvement over the stock battery.
Installation “nightmare” but solid performance
Unfortunately, despite claims that the battery mod is easy to install, some users ran into problems. Reddit user u/Markodemi described the process as a “nightmare,” and explained that because the components are so small, he needed tweezers and a magnifying glass. He also broke off part of the bracket. In the end, an ordinary hair dryer was needed to melt the glue holding it together so he could remove the stock battery and install the mod.
Another Reddit user called u/Murky-Swing4549 reported fewer problems, saying that the trickiest bit involved correctly arranging the two wires when using the stock Legion Go backplate. He then noted that a 3D-printed custom backplate might be better. He also came back with a follow-up post to show off performance in Call of Duty Warzone, claiming 2 hours 15 minutes of gameplay when running at 20W.
Some commenters were wondering why Lenovo hadn't simply designed the Legion Go with a larger battery. As replies indicate, the main reason is weight. Batteries are heavy, and a battery that is too large makes the unit too heavy to comfortably use for some people.
For those with the arm strength, however, this battery mod might be the way forward. At least until the Legion Go 2 is released. It has certainly been a game changer for users of the ROG Ally, especially the original model, which featured notoriously poor battery life.
