The Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS initially launched with a $549 tag, but a price hike a few months ago pushed its price all the way up to $989. That made the handheld much harder to recommend for many users, as spending close to $1,000 on it simply doesn’t make sense for everyone. However, if you’ve been planning to get the SteamOS version, we’ve found a few Best Buy deals that make it significantly more affordable.

Best Buy currently has the Legion Go S with the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD listed for $749.99, which is $240 below its current retail price. However, you can save even more if you don’t mind purchasing an Open Box unit instead of a brand-new one.

Open Box Legion Go S handhelds at Best Buy

The cheapest option is an Open Box – Fair model, listed for $524.99. This means the handheld is fully functional, but it may have noticeable scratches or dents and could be missing some non-essential parts or accessories. It’s the option to consider if getting the lowest possible price matters more to you than cosmetic condition.

If you’re willing to spend around $45 more, we’d recommend going with the Open Box – Excellent option instead for $569.99. According to Best Buy’s condition description, these products are fully functional, look like new, and include all original parts and accessories.

More importantly, these Open Box options make the Legion Go S an interesting alternative to Valve’s Steam Deck OLED. Following price hikes in May, the 512GB Steam Deck OLED currently costs $789, so you can potentially get the Legion Go S with SteamOS for less while still receiving a handheld built around the same console-like Steam experience.

The Legion Go S features an 8-inch 120Hz IPS touchscreen with VRR, a 16:10 aspect ratio, 500 nits of brightness, and 100% sRGB coverage. It’s powered by AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Go with integrated RDNA graphics, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 512GB PCIe Gen4 SSD. There’s also a microSD slot for adding up to 2TB of extra storage.

Since this version runs SteamOS, you get features such as quick suspend and resume, Steam Cloud, Steam Chat, Game Recording, and easy access to your existing Steam library. The handheld also packs a 55.5Wh battery with Rapid Charge Pro, which Lenovo claims can reach 50% charge in around 30 minutes.
