CES 2025 has been taking place this week and has been host to some massive hardware announcements. Perhaps the biggest of them all was the launch of Nvidia’s RTX 50 series GPUs, but now’s the time to talk about a brand-new handheld from Lenovo. The Legion Go S is the company’s new ‘budget’ model which dials down a few specs and one that saw plenty of rumors in the run-up to the event. We can now put those rumors behind us as the release date is soon here.
The Lenovo Legion Go S pre order we’re talking about today is for the Windows model. There will be a SteamOS variant coming later this year in May, which we expect to be a popular alternative to the Steam Deck, especially if the performance of this new handheld impresses on release.
- CPU: AMD Ryzen Z2 Go
- Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics, 12 cores
- Display: 8-inch, 120Hz, IPS, VRR, 1920 x 1200
- RAM: 32GB 6400MHz LPDDR5X
- Storage: 1TB PCIe SSD
Lenovo Legion Go S pre order goes live
The Lenovo Legion Go S is now available for pre-order on Best Buy, revealing that the device will be released on Friday, February 14th. As for specifications, the Go S is a budget variant of the original, with a smaller 8-inch screen, no detachable controllers, and a lower 1200p resolution. With all that in mind, the price tag doesn’t look immediately appealing. However, it’s worth noting that the SteamOS variant we mentioned will be cheaper, according to Lenovo’s CES 2025 press release.

How much does the Lenovo Legion Go S cost?
As we can see from the Best Buy listing (and Lenovo’s press release), the Lenovo Legion Go S pricing looks like this:
- Lenovo Legion Go S (Windows): $729.99, additional configurations available from May starting at $599.99
- Lenovo Legion Go S (SteamOS): starting from $499.99
So, right now, the Go S will set you back $729.99. Right away, this feels a little overpriced – and the reaction online seems to mimic that feeling. Especially when you take into account the fact the original 8.8″ Legion Go offers better specs (particularly the display) and is currently only $20 more at Best Buy.
Either way, the Legion Go S looks to be an interesting device ideal for users who want something more compact that benefits from better performance on a lower resolution, as well as double the system RAM and improved battery life.
