Microsoft has recently pushed the narrative that it would be bringing Xbox Game Pass to more than just its own gaming hardware with the help of Xbox Cloud Gaming. You may have seen this in the company’s ‘This Is an Xbox‘ marketing campaign. Today, LG has announced that the Xbox app will begin rolling out to a collection of its smart TVs in 25 countries this week, enabling access to Xbox Cloud Gaming and allowing gamers to stream modern AAA titles without the need for the brand’s gaming hardware.
The Xbox app will be compatible with select LG screens and monitors running webOS 24 and above. According to the press release, the supported models include “2022 OLED TVs, 2023 OLED, QNED, NanoCell and UHD TVs… which have been updated to software version 23.20.01 or higher.” LG's StanbyME portable screen will also receive the app at a later date.
LG rivals Samsung’s cloud gaming platform
With the Xbox app, LG now follows TV rival Samsung, which has been offering Xbox Cloud Gaming services via its Gaming Hub platform since 2022. This means LG and Samsung now offer the most powerful cloud gaming capabilities on their video devices. That said, you will need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, but for $19.99 per month, LG Smart TV owners will now be able to access hundreds of games right from the comfort of their couch using a game controller as long as they have a fast internet connection.
The Xbox app enables LG TV owners to jump straight into gameplay from day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, launching hundreds of titles from Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, Xbox Game Studios, and more – with just a compatible controller.

LG produces some of the best TVs for gaming out there, particularly with its range of popular OLED televisions. So, we think integration of the Xbox app into webOS is a natural fit.
