Marathon mouse input not working and more bugs acknowledged by Bungie as devs reveal possible fixes
Table of Contents
Bungie has opened up free access to its latest shooter this weekend in the Marathon Server Slam, providing players a golden opportunity to figure out whether they want to pay the $40 price tag once it launches on March 5. It also allows Bungie to stress-test servers and iron out bugs, and there are evidently a bunch of problems that need fixing up before launch.
Players have already been highlighting annoying mouse input and voice chat issues, which have been acknowledged by Bungie in a day 1 round-up post on X. While there currently isn’t any official advice on fixing the in-game voice chat (it reportedly works fine in menus), Bungie says it has “some great leads” and is likely working on a fix. As for mouse input, there are a few things you can do to troubleshoot the issue.

In a post on X, the Marathon dev team has revealed a few things you can try to restore mouse input to working order.

- If you’re streaming, try capturing your whole screen (commonly known as Display Capture) instead of the game specifically (Game Capture or Window Capture).
- If you’re not streaming, or changing capture type doesn’t work, try disabling overlays from software like Discord or Steam.
- Steam: Game library > right-click Marathon Server Slam > Properties > General > untick “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game” – alternatively, you can turn off the Steam overlay altogether in the “In Game” section of the Steam settings.
- Discord: Click the gear icon (bottom left) to open User Settings, select Game Overlay under the Activity Settings, and untick the “Enable in-game overlay” box.
The developers also suggest closing any other tools that may interact with the game, such as “screen sharing, screen capture, or screen measurement utilities”. Other reports suggest that shutting down Discord entirely will help fix mouse input issues. This could include stuttering, a complete lack of input, or generally laggy input, which isn’t fun to play with.
Popular streamer Summit1G is one of the people to run into buggy mouse input, specifically in the game’s menus, forcing him to use a controller to navigate the menu. While issues like these are bound to cause some frustration, it’s these painfully obvious bugs that are probably the most likely to be addressed sooner, rather than later.
With a week until launch, it’s clear that Bungie has a busy week of bug fixing and finishing touches ahead of them. The ongoing Server Slam will continue until March 2 and is completely free to play on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
