Monster Hunter Wilds mod promises “consistent” 60 FPS on an 8-year-old GPU

Table of Contents
Monster Hunter Wilds has had a massive launch, surpassing the 1M player mark just days after release. However, despite its explosive debut, the game hasn’t been free from performance issues, with the majority of mixed reviews on Steam pointing to crashes, low FPS, or stuttering. For us, testing MHW on the latest RTX 5080 was a joy, but the same can’t be said when putting the load on lower-end hardware like the Steam Deck.
Since Capcom hasn’t provided much in the way of fixing the performance issues that have been plaguing the game so far, modders have now taken the challenge into their own hands to provide a consistent 60 FPS gaming experience on MHW, even if you’re using an Nvidia GTX 10 Series GPU.

GTX 1080 Ti providing consistent 55-60 FPS
This performance mod is uploaded on Nexus Mods and is designed to optimize game settings for a smoother 60 FPS experience. According to the creator, they achieved 55-60 FPS on a GTX 1080 Ti by enabling forced mesh sharing and tweaking certain reader settings like film grain and god rays. That said, the mod is intended to work across all GTX 10 series GPUs, and with cards like the 1660 Super, the creator claims the performance uplift wouldn’t be “a lot less”.
The creator also showcased gameplay with the mod enabled, where they were able to achieve stable 60 FPS in a crowded market area, which is surprising, as early benchmarks showed that such areas are quite taxing on hardware. Unfortunately, this was the only gameplay footage shown in the video, but there was a quick overview of all the in-game settings, so you can also replicate that for your system, especially if you are on a 10 series GPU.
This mod comes at a pretty significant visual cost
The mod obviously isn't going to magically boost your FPS since it's essentially just a super-low settings preset. This means that while the game will be playable, the visuals won't be something you'll appreciate. To give you an idea of how much of a hit the visuals take, if the lowest in-game settings were 720p, enabling this mod could drop it to 480p or even lower. So, in exchange for a significant reduction in visual quality, this mod helps you achieve higher FPS.
Since it's a super low settings preset, it should technically work on any GPU. However, there's no confirmation from other GPU owners about their experience. That said, installing the mod isn't a simple drag-and-drop process, so we highly recommend checking the instructions in the mod description or following the video guide in the Video tab.
