Monster Hunter Wilds mod promises FPS boost without compromising visual quality “on any GPU”

Table of Contents
Monster Hunter Wilds launched across all platforms last week, and while many have joined to explore its massive world, the game suffers from poor optimization, with numerous complaints, especially from those with lower-end hardware. While we wait for Capcom to release a patch to address the game’s biggest issue so far, modders have started taking matters into their own hands to provide a more playable experience on lower-end systems.
For Steam Deck users, we recently saw a config that promises a stable 30 FPS, though the experience is similar to playing on a streaming service. As for those with older GPUs, we had an optimization mod that promised a consistent 60 FPS but in exchange for a significant visual cost. However, a new mod has now joined the list, which not only increases your frame rates but also doesn't make your game look like a PowerPoint presentation.

RTX 3060 Ti owner sees a 50% FPS increase with this config
This performance boost mod is available on NexusMods and is essentially a simple tweaked configuration file for Monster Hunter Wilds that, according to the creator, “works on any GPU,” though we think “any lower-end GPUs” would be the more accurate way to put it. According to the mod description, it improves performance by 10+ FPS depending on your hardware and also reduces CPU usage by 10-15% to make the game run smoother. Here are the four main things this performance config tweaks:
- Removed minor post-processing effects (Fog, volumetric effects, lens distortion, film grain, etc.).
- Optimized CPU load by adjusting thread limits and reducing redundant calculations.
- Tweaked GPU settings to lower background resource usage without affecting textures or main visuals.
- Frame Generation Disabled
And it seems the mod has already worked its magic for many, as one RTX 3060 Ti user commented that their FPS saw a significant 50% increase, jumping from 60 FPS to 90 FPS at 1080p resolution. Another user mentioned that they had been playing the game at 1600×900 resolution with high settings, averaging 25 FPS, which dropped to 15 FPS in certain zones. But, with this config, they are now able to get around 40 FPS at 1920×1080 resolution with high settings.
More FPS without sacrificing image quality
That said, the config is based on the lowest visual preset, but users can change the graphics settings according to their preference, and the tweaks will still work. However, the mod is better suited for those with lower-end specifications, and if you are already getting smooth frame rates with no drastic issues, we wouldn't recommend using it, as for one RTX 4070 Ti Super owner, the mod ended up decreasing FPS instead of increasing it.
The mod description includes everything from installation instructions to details on every setting and tweak it adjusts, so be sure to check that out. If you run into any issues, you can also post your query in the comments section, and someone will guide you along.
