Bad news for Steam Deck (or other similarly-specced hardware) users who might have been hoping to play Monster Hunter Wilds portably, as it doesn't look like the title will be on GeForce Now at launch.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a very demanding game, as the PC Guide team discovered when they tried to test it on Steam Deck. Even on FSR Ultra Performance with the lowest possible settings. Unfortunately, the game struggled, suffering from badly degraded visuals and frame stutters.

Monster Hunter Wilds is going to be too demanding for many systems

With playing natively ruled out, game streaming seemed like a good alternative. Unfortunately, it seems like Steam Deck users are out of luck there as well. The official GeForce New account posted on Twitter/X that: “Unfortunately, we don’t have news to share on Monster Hunter Wilds right now. If and when we do have news, we’ll share on our channels.”

This suggests that Monster Hunter Wilds is not currently planned to be available on GeForce Now, at least initially. Steam Deck users who want to play will need to wait an unknown length of time for the game to become available or put up with poor performance.

Though the Steam Deck is a very capable and powerful machine to have in such a small package, it does still have its limits. The Steam Deck uses a custom AMD APU instead of a discrete CPU and GPU combination like that in desktops and gaming laptops.

As a result, the overall performance of the Steam Deck is roughly equivalent to a Ryzen 5 or Intel Core i5 paired with something like an Nvidia GeForce 1050, or at a push, a 1060. With this in mind, it is pretty impressive that it can run Monster Hunter Wilds at all.

Many fans will still be disappointed that they won't be able to hunt monsters on the go.
