Handheld owners have a new indie game to look forward to – Mouse: P.I. For Hire, developed by Fumi Games (the studio’s first title) and published by PlaySide. It has officially been Steam Deck Verified, and recently released system requirements reveal what it takes to run on a wide range of hardware, including framerate targets for consoles and other handheld devices.

On PC, the recommended specs target 60 FPS at 1440p and suggest an Intel Core i5-9600/Ryzen 5 3600 paired with an RTX 3060, Intel Arc B570, or Radeon RX 7600 GPU. On the Steam Deck, the devs say it will run at its native 800p resolution at 40 FPS using default settings, with the file size sitting at 11GB (a couple of gigs smaller than the Xbox Ally devices running on Windows).

Mouse: P.I. For Hire console & handheld requirements

As expected, the Xbox Ally X looks to be one of the best handhelds for smooth performance in Mouse: P.I. For Hire. It offers up to 120 FPS gameplay at 900p, though this is lower than the device’s native 1080p resolution. The non-X Xbox Ally drops down to 60 FPS at 720p, while the Steam Deck sits at just 40 FPS.

Even still, this was enough for Valve to award it with full Verified status, meaning the game should work flawlessly out of the box. One interesting tidbit about the specs below is the 1260p @ 30 FPS quality mode for the Switch 2 in handheld mode. This is despite the Switch 2’s handheld only have a 1080p screen; it was officially confirmed that this is due to utilizing supersampling.

File size disparity between the PC gaming handhelds may be due to differences in how game files are handled by SteamOS and Windows 11. Regardless, all platforms enjoy a very modest 15GB or lower size, which feels like absolutely nothing these days.

We’ll have to wait and see if further optimizations will be possible once the game releases on Thursday, April 16, priced from $29.99. The team recently celebrated a total of 1.5 million wishlists, so we expect it to be a pretty popular launch.
