Due to the ongoing memory crisis, prices of components like RAM, SSDs, and GPUs have climbed significantly in the past few months. While this has made things difficult for PC builders to upgrade, manufacturers are also being forced to increase the cost of their products. Just recently, we reported that the Lenovo Legion 2 is now selling for over $1,800, and it seems like the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X is the next Windows handheld in line to get a price hike.

The ROG Xbox Ally X was launched for ¥139,800 in Japan, which converts to around $900. While it has managed to stay close to that price, the ongoing shortages have caused its price to increase significantly. On ASUS Japan’s official online store, the handheld is currently selling for ¥169,800. This is a massive ¥30,000 increase (around $195) over its launch price.

ROG Xbox Ally X gets a price increase in Japan

The standard ROG Xbox Ally, however, is still thankfully selling for ¥89,800 in Japan, which is its original launch price. On top of that, Automation Media confirms that the regular (non-Xbox) ROG Ally and ROG Ally X are also still available at their original prices, meaning they haven’t been affected by the memory crisis yet.

At the moment, the price change appears to be for Japan only. If you head over to Best Buy, you’ll find the ROG Xbox Ally X still listed for $999.99, and the same goes for the official ASUS store in the U.S. We’re not sure if the price will increase in the U.S. in the next few weeks. But if you’re planning to get it for yourself, we would recommend acting fast and grabbing a unit while it’s still listed at a fair price. Lenovo’s Legion Go 2 has already seen a price hike of around $500 (after we first spotted price changes in the UK), and it doesn’t seem entirely out of the question for the same to happen to the new flagship Ally.
