When Lenovo launched the Legion Go 2 back in September, the pricing already raised eyebrows. The base model with the Ryzen Z2 started at $1,099, while the more powerful Ryzen Z2 Extreme variant launched from $1,349.99. Many handheld gaming fans felt those prices were too high compared to the competition, and instead of the prices getting better since then, they have only been rising. Last week, we saw price hikes hit the UK market. And now, this is spreading to the United States.

If you head over to B&H, you will find the Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor listed at $1,849. That is roughly a $500 increase over its original $1,349.99 MSRP. That kind of jump is massive, especially for a handheld gaming PC. However, right now, the listing at B&H shows the device as sold out, and there is no clear restock date.

Over at Best Buy, things look better, but it seems likely the prices haven’t been updated yet. The same Legion Go 2 model with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is still listed at its original MSRP of $1,349, but remains sold out. Best Buy may update the price once new stock arrives, especially since we know this newly-priced B&H listing was back in stock at some point (as per a screenshot posted to Reddit). The Gen 2 device is still not available on Lenovo’s official US store, either.

At this point, Lenovo has not shared an official reason for the price hike. There has been no statement explaining why the top model suddenly jumped by around $500 in the US. One likely reason is the ongoing memory crisis. Component prices have increased in recent months. RAM and storage costs have gone up, which directly affects devices like handheld gaming PCs, including the Steam Deck OLED.

When core components become more expensive, manufacturers often pass those costs to consumers. For now, all we can do is wait and see if the prices will stabilize, because at $1,849, it doesn’t feel worth giving it the time of day.
