LG has just announced its upcoming OLED TV lineup at this year’s CES. Among a plethora of improvements, the G5 will now feature the 48-inch size variant for the first time.

CES 2025 is officially live and LG has unveiled a whole host of exciting new OLED TVs and technologies. The lineup will feature the G5, C5, M5, and B5 models, all of which will receive brightness improvements over their predecessors.

In a G-series first, LG will be offering up a 48-inch size variant this year for the G5 – a model unique to the C-series last year. Sadly, the G5 48-inch model (alongside the Goliath 97-inch) will not feature the brand’s latest “brightness Booster Ultimate” tech. That said, it will offer gamers the best visual experience at a more cost-effective price point, so it’ll be interesting to see how it does on launch.

LG seemingly targets console gamers with LG G5 48-inch

It’s an interesting move from LG to offer a smaller 48-inch variant to their premium G-series lineup, but one that could pay off if gamers are looking for the best possible experience.

The LG G5 has been touted as the brightest OLED TV in their lineup, offering up three times the peak luminance of a “conventional” OLED TV (such as the entry-level B5). It will offer a 40% peak brightness increase over last year’s model when it comes to full-screen brightness, all while dropping MLA technology – a tech that will be replaced with LG’s new four-stack OLED panel, coined as “Brightness Booster Ultimate” technology.

Interestingly, the smaller 48-inch model will not feature the improved 165Hz refresh rate. Instead, it looks like the G5 48-inch will only feature 144Hz – most likely due to modern consoles not being about to support anything higher than 120Hz at 4K. That said, VRR is supported on all of LG’s new OLED TVs, including the 48-inch G5 – meaning this will still be a great TV for modern console gaming.

How will the G5 48-inch differ from the C5 48-inch?

One of the major questions left unresolved right now is how the G5 48-inch will differ from the C5 alternative. On the surface, you’re probably thinking there are plenty of improvements. However, once you factor in the 48-inch G5 not featuring the high-end four-stack OLED panel (meaning it won’t be as bright as the rest of the range), plus a lower 144Hz refresh rate (which will likely be the same as the C5), it’s hard to distinguish the main differences.

The C4 48-inch model did seemingly well on launch last year, and continues to do so to this day. With the C-series benefiting from a lower price point, it’ll be interesting to see how many people buy into the G5 version, especially if the upgrades aren’t that impressive.
