Nvidia grants preview priveledge to certain publishers for the RTX 5060

Many hardware reviewers came out to state that there weren’t any drivers available for the RTX 5060 before the embargo was up. Instead, they would have to wait until the RTX 5060 release date, when it becomes available to the public. That doesn’t give anyone near enough time to get GPU reviews and tests out in time before you buy. It also comes out during Computex, where you’ll likely find many of these tech enthusiasts.
However, now it seems Nvidia looks to be lifting some of the veil as a bunch of 5060 previews have popped up, which come in quite a strict capacity. As a Reddit comment explains, Nvidia was very limiting in what and how was tested in these previews; these were not really independent tests to show off the real performance. Putting the 5060 in its best light, and not a good basis to consider if you buy the card.
Below are some of those requirements, and the following sites have published these previews: Gamestar, Gamesradar, Tom’s Guide, JVTech, and Ascii.
RTX 5060 preview performance
These do provide a look at the kind of improvements with the features the 5060 provides compared to the previous generations. They do utilize frame generation and DLSS, and that’s not even the same across each of the GPUs as the DLSS generations vary with each leap back.
In the ASCII Japan preview, the RTX 5060 falls behind the 5060 Ti by 15% on average with DLSS 2x frame gen enabled. With plenty more of the games tested out, here is just a look at Doom: The Dark Ages’ performance.
GPU | Average FPS | 1% lows |
---|---|---|
RTX 5060 Ti 16GB (DLSS MFG x3) | 231.47 | 200.77 |
RTX 5060 Ti 8GB (DLSS MFG x3) | 234.31 | 199.58 |
RTX 5060 (DLSS MFG 3x) | 208.72 | 154.79 |
RTX 5060 Ti 16GB (DLSS FG 2x) | 170.63 | 141.65 |
RTX 5060 Ti 8GB (DLSS FG 2x) | 172.57 | 145.00 |
RTX 5060 (DLSS FG 2x) | 150.56 | 126.40 |
RTX 4060 (DLSS FG) | 128.66 | 107.90 |
RTX 3060 12GB (FSR 3 FG) | 110.88 | 89.62 |
RTX 2060 (FSR 3 FG) | 43.04 | 31.71 |
Clearly, Nvidia is controlling the narrative around the 5060, restricting the reviews and showing off actual performance; it isn’t a fair overview of a good comparison between the graphics cards. It would be better to wait till full reviews, which you will have to wait till after the release and during plenty of other news, thanks to Computex.
