Nvidia is expected to launch its new RTX 50 series GPUs in early 2025. The company will likely reveal the lineup during the CES 2025 event in January. While Nvidia hasn’t shared any official specs yet, some new leaks about the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti have surfaced recently, highlighting some interesting differences between the 5060 Ti and ‘non-Ti’ variants.

According to Wccftech’s sources, the RTX 5060 Ti will come with 16GB of VRAM, whereas the RTX 5060 is rumored to have only 8GB of VRAM. This key difference could leave many gamers choosing the more expensive Ti variant – especially if AAA games continue to increase in demand.

8GB is not the standard anymore

Around four years ago, 8GB of VRAM was considered more than enough for most games. But things have changed since then, as modern games require more VRAM, especially if you want to play at higher settings or resolutions. For example, running games at 1080p with Ultra or High settings now often demands more than 8GB of VRAM. This makes GPUs with only 8GB feel outdated, even for 1080p gaming.

Both the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti are expected to use the PG152 board with a 128-bit memory interface. They will also feature GDDR7 memory, which is faster than the GDDR6 used in the RTX 40 series. However, the difference comes in the form of VRAM, with the RTX 5060 rumored to launch with 8GB VRAM and the Ti variant offering 16GB. The RTX 4060 Ti had two variants – one with 8GB and the other with 16GB. This time, it seems like Nvidia is planning to keep things simple by offering only a 16GB variant.

If the leaks are accurate, choosing the RTX 5060 Ti over the RTX 5060 would make a lot of sense, especially for gamers who want smoother gameplay and better visuals. With 16GB of VRAM, the RTX 5060 Ti would handle modern games much better at 1080p Ultra settings. It would even allow you to play some games at 1440p without major compromises. On the other hand, the RTX 5060’s 8GB of VRAM might be fine if you’re okay with lowering the settings or if you play less demanding games. But for gamers who want the best experience at 1080p, the RTX 5060 Ti is clearly the better choice.

We recently saw how Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was struggling on GPUs with only 8GB of VRAM. On top of that, even Assassin’s Creed Mirage was consuming over 9GB of memory with Ultra Textures. This is one of the reasons why Intel has introduced new ARC B-Series GPUs in the market that offer 10 and 12GB of VRAM while staying in the budget category. Because of this, some people might skip the RTX 5060 and opt for the Intel Arc B-series GPUs for more VRAM. Or, they could opt for the RTX 5060 Ti instead if they want to stick with Nvidia.
