Nvidia has confirmed they will also be replacing cards and taking refunds for those who bought a defective 50 Series card from the Nvidia store, PC Guide has learned. Team Green has come under fire over the last few days after some users claimed a number of 50 Series Cards were missing ROPs (Render Output Units), subsequently affecting performance. This was initially confirmed to affect the RTX 5090 and 5070 Ti, and the RTX 5080 has also been tested with missing ROPs.
While they encouraged those affected to “contact the board manufacturer for a replacement”, Nvidia confirmed to us that they, too, will be allowing those affected to submit RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) requests.

You can get a refund from the Nvidia store
“Customers can submit an RMA request with us as well,” the Nvidia spokesperson confirmed when asked if Nvidia would be offering refunds for those who bought directly from the store. PC Guide is waiting to hear from Nvidia how long it will take to replace the card, but given the current supply and demand, it could well be weeks – or even months – before replacements are sent out.
Nvidia has confirmed that only 0.5% of those with the new cards have been affected by the “rare” issue and has said that the production “anomaly” has since been corrected. Nvidia GeForce global PR Director Ben Berraondo told The Verge: “We have identified a rare issue affecting less than 0.5% (half a percent) of GeForce RTX 5090 / 5090D and 5070 Ti GPUs which have one fewer ROP than specified”.

The average graphical performance impact is 4%, with no impact on AI and Compute workloads. Nvidia says that “affected consumers can contact the board manufacturer for a replacement. The production anomaly has been corrected.”
How to submit an RTX 50 series RMA
To submit an RMA all you need to do is:
- Contact NVIDIA’s customer care team via support
- Follow their instructions for troubleshooting
- If the product is believed to be defective, return it to the place of purchase
To speed up the process, Nvidia advises to:
- Include the top serial numbers of the chassis or switch
- Attach the Syssump file to the RMA request
