You could be eligible for a replacement RTX 50 series GPU if yours is impacted by ‘rare’ issue

Nvidia publicly confirmed a “rare issue” with some of their newly released GPUs last week, leaving some customers who shelled out for the top-of-the-line RTX 5090 disappointed. The issue – which impacts the 5090, 5080, and now 5070 Ti – sees affected GPUs missing render units. Thankfully, users who do have defective cards can contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
However, stock shortages of the Blackwell 50-series cards are ongoing so it is unknown how long it will take for users to receive a replacement unit.
Nvidia has now confirmed that the issue has been identified and said that affected users can claim a replacement GPU. Multiple manufacturers have been impacted, including cards from Zotac, MSI, Gigabyte, and Manli. Even a Nvidia Founder's Edition card has been affected.

Thankfully, the actual impact of this defect is fairly minimal, as Nvidia GeForce global PR Director Ben Berraondo told The Verge: “We have identified a rare issue affecting less than 0.5% (half a percent) of GeForce RTX 5090 / 5090D and 5070 Ti GPUs which have one fewer ROP than specified. The average graphical performance impact is 4%, with no impact on AI and Compute workloads. Affected consumers can contact the board manufacturer for a replacement. The production anomaly has been corrected.”
Users displeased with latest issues from Nvidia
Some users remain unhappy about the situation. It follows from the news that Nvidia removed PhysX compatibility from its 50 series cards, as well as driver issues and continued reports of problematic power connectors melting.
Many have strongly criticized the launch of the 50 series, citing the high prices and lack of quality control, as well as the lack of measures to prevent resellers from buying up all the cards and charging exorbitant prices.
If you have bought an RTX 5090 or RTX 5070 Ti card, you can use GPU-Z to check the status of your card to see if it is showing the correct number of ROPs. If it isn't, you will need to contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
