Nvidia’s new GPU temperature hotfix isn’t just for the RTX 50 series

Nvidia recently released its GeForce 576.02 driver update to address black screen and stability issues. However, users began reporting that the update introduced a new problem. GPU temperature sensors were showing incorrect data after waking from sleep or power-saving modes, which caused the system to apply the wrong clock speeds and voltages.
The green team initially acknowledged the issue in the 576.02 release notes as a “known bug,” and the company quickly released a hotfix driver to resolve the issue. This hotfix is based on the 576.02 driver, so it includes all previous fixes for black screen and stability problems, along with the following additional fixes:
Source: Nvidia Support
- [RTX 50 series] Some games may display shadow flicker/corruption after updating to GRD 576.02 [5231537]
- Lumion 2024 crashes on GeForce RTX 50 series graphics card when entering render mode [5232345]
- GPU monitoring utilities may stop reporting the GPU temperature after PC wakes from sleep [5231307]
- [RTX 50 series] Some games may crash while compiling shaders after updating to GRD 576.02 [5230492]
- [GeForce RTX 50 series notebook] Resume from Modern Standy can result in black screen [5204385]
- [RTX 50 series] SteamVR may display random V-SYNC micro-stutters when using multiple displays [5152246]
- [RTX 50 series] Lower idle GPU clock speeds after updating to GRD 576.02 [5232414]
Nvidia says this hotfix is for “all cards”
Interestingly, while the majority of reports came from RTX 50 series owners, RTX 30 and 40 series users were also affected by this problem. Thankfully, according to Nvidia’s Jacob Freeman, this hotfix update resolves the issue across all RTX GPUs. The phrasing also implies it will address any related issues on older GTX cards (if applicable). This is also reflected in the patch notes, where the GPU monitoring utility fix is not tied to any specific series, unlike the other fixes, which specifically mention the RTX 50 series.
That said, if you were affected by the monitoring utility issue or any of the other problems listed, you can download the hotfix from Nvidia’s official website while the company prepares the next Game Ready/WHQL release, expected at a later date.
