Oblivion Remastered already has over 100 mods despite no official support, including a “miracle” anti-stutter fix

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has officially been released by Bethesda (in partnership with Virtuos) with improved visuals and gameplay, and many were surprised to see such a sudden launch of the game. However, that wasn’t the only surprise, as Bethesda has confirmed that Oblivion Remastered won’t officially support mods, despite the original game’s nearly 20-year history as a haven for the modding community.
Bethesda games typically come with official mod support, but in the case of Oblivion Remastered, the developers put the matter plainly in a recent FAQ response on their website: “Mods are not supported for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.” However, that hasn’t stopped fans from modding away, as over on the popular site NexusMods, there are 100 mods (and counting) out in the wild, not even one full day after the game’s launch.
Our favourite Oblivion Remastered mods right now
More and more Oblivion Remastered mods are being uploaded on NexusMods by the minute, so it’s hard to pick out a few favorites. However, the trending filter helped us find some pretty useful ones.
#1 Ultimate Engine Tweaks
When Bethesda revealed the system requirements for the Oblivion remaster, we were happy to see that things were kept fairly achievable, with recommended specs featuring cards like the RTX 2080. However, benchmarks of the game so far reveal that performance isn't exactly silky smooth, as even on the latest generation of graphics cards, many people have been complaining about stuttering.
Luckily, this mod aims to solve just that. The Ultimate Engine Tweaks mod removes most stutters, improves performance and stability, decreases input latency, and enhances picture clarity, all with no visual loss. And judging from the top three comments on the post, it’s safe to say that this mod has worked its magic for a majority of players.
#2 Carry Weight Modifier
Another highlight includes Skyrim classic mods like the carry weight modifier for Oblivion Remastered, which, for those unaware, sets the lockpick’s weight to -150, effectively boosting your carry capacity. The creator mentions that since the game runs on two engines, strength scaling can’t be adjusted directly, so this was the next smartest thing to allow you to carry more eloot.
#3 Full Map Unlocked
Easy to guess from the name, this mod essentially unlocks all map markers from the start of the game, allowing fast travel to every major location without the need to discover them first. For those on their first playthrough, we don’t think this will be a good mod to use, but for those who have finished the game and want to explore every bit of the map, it’s worth a shot.
Honorable mentions
Apart from that, there are a bunch more mods that caught our eye, like the Universal Achievement Unblocker, a small game plugin that prevents achievements from being blocked on Steam or Game Pass, or the Difficulty Slider Fixed mod, which fixes the huge jumps in damage multipliers from difficulty settings to allow more granular configuration. So be sure to check out NexusMods to come across something of your liking.
That said, for console players, there doesn’t seem to be any good news regarding mod support, as there are no plans for Bethesda to bring official mod support to the game at the moment.
