GameStop in the United States is starting to sell PlayStation 5 Pro consoles for four figures, and they’re not even brand-new. The popular retailer has updated pricing for pre-owned PS5 Pro systems, while new models remain widely out of stock – even at the official PlayStation Store. A used PS5 Pro will now cost $1,399.99 for a digital model, or $1,499.99 with the phyiscal disc tray attachment.

Price comparison site HotStock reveals that major US retailers currently don’t hold and PlayStation 5 Pro stock, with the console unavailable at the likes of Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop. Of course, this may be subject to change, but this major price hike suggests to us that stock isn’t going to be widely available any time soon. It brings the price close to re-sellers on eBay.

New PlayStation 5 Pro prices at GameStop

An internal company message was shared around yesterday, confirming that a price change was on the way. GameStop has now updated its store, revealing that a pre-owned, refurbished PlayStation 5 Pro will now cost $1,399.99 for regular customers, or you can get a $70 discount and get it for $1,329.99 if you’re a GameStop Pro Member.

At the time of writing, we didn’t find a refurbished model in stock, and the price rise suggests brand-new $899.99 models won’t be coming back in stock any time soon, either. GameStop says the higher price “is intentional” while explaining new retail value and trade-in values – they’ll give customers $800 for trading in a PS5 Pro, or $850 for if the physical disc drive attachment is included.

PS5 Pro (preowned) consoles will receive a price change beginning tomorrow, [October 6]. Note: the preowned console will have a higher price than the new console – this is intentional.

Sony upped the price of its PlayStation 5 range for the second time earlier this year, with the PS5 Pro jumping from $699.99 to $899.99. With stock dried up and prices only getting more extortionate, we imagine fans who snapped one up at launch is pretty happy with their decision right now. Back at launch in November 2024, the $699.99 price tag felt incredibly steep, but now… not so much.
