PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) is Sony’s upscaling technology designed to improve performance and visuals in games on the PS5 Pro. Around two weeks ago, Sony confirmed that it was working on further improvements, and now PSSR 2 – officially referred to as ‘enhanced’ or ‘upgraded PSSR’ – has arrived, bringing noticeable upgrades over the previous version.

PSSR 2 is included in the latest PS5 system software update, which began rolling out yesterday. However, the update is being released in phases, so some users may receive it earlier than others. Sony is expected to make it available to all PS5 Pro users over the next few days, so be sure to check your system for an update.

List of PSSR 2 compatible games

It is, however, important to keep in mind that not every game supports PSSR 2. There are only a handful of games that support the latest version, and the full list can be seen below:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Control
  • Crimson Desert
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
  • Monster Hunter Wilds
  • Nioh 3
  • Resident Evil Requiem
  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
  • Silent Hill 2

The current list of supported games is still limited, but it’s expected to grow over time. Sony has already confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077 will receive updates in the coming weeks to add support for PSSR 2. Meanwhile, Resident Evil Requiem launched with built-in support for the new version, making it the first title to showcase its visual improvements.

In any case, once the update becomes available, you can enable PSSR 2 for compatible games by going to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. As mentioned earlier, this feature is only available on the PlayStation 5 Pro, so standard PS5 users can not take advantage of the upscaling technology.
