After years of anticipation, it seems the wait is finally over for PC gamers. Yes, if you are eager to experience the original Red Dead Redemption on PC, it appears that you’re in luck. A recent, seemingly accidental, leak on the PlayStation Store all but confirms that Rockstar Games is indeed bringing the beloved title to “PC for the first time ever”.
While the news is undoubtedly exciting for fans, it’s worth noting that this release is somewhat overdue as the original game launched on consoles over 14 years ago – way back in 2010. Given the immense popularity and cultural impact of the original game, and the subsequent success of its sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, many players have been puzzled by the absence of the first game on the PC platform. Nonetheless, the upcoming release is undoubtedly a positive development.
What will Red Dead Redemption look like on PC?
The PC version promises to be more than just a simple port. It will feature enhancements tailored specifically for the platform, including support for higher resolutions (possibly ultrawide) and frame rates. Additionally, players can expect to enjoy the game across multiple monitors. Given the success of AMD’s FSR 2 upscaling technology in the console versions, it’s possible that the PC release will support a range of modern upscaling options, providing players with greater flexibility to optimize the game’s performance.
Perhaps most importantly, the PC version will include all the content from the original Game of the Year Edition, meaning players will be able to experience the thrilling main story and the chilling Undead Nightmare expansion. The store page notes that the PC release will incorporate all the upgrades made to the 2023 console remasters, with further enhancements exclusive to the PC platform.
No official release date for RDR on PC yet
While there’s no official release date yet, the accidental leak suggests that an official announcement from Rockstar is imminent. With the promise of enhanced visuals, performance, and features, the PC release of Red Dead Redemption is sure to draw headlines and may even harbor some nostalgic fans to go back and revisit the original again. Its sequel, RDR2, has been popular since its release on PC, but it could be time to shine some light on the OG after 14 years.
