AMD has finally released Fluid Motion Frames 2, a worthy upgrade to its frame generation technology. This piece of tech is Team Red’s answer to DLSS 3 frame gen and has been designed to boost your framerate, whether the game developer supports it or not.
On top of that, it is compatible with AMD’s two latest generations of GPUs, the RX 7000 and 6000 series. We assume the upcoming RX 8000 series will also see support. Contrast this to Nvidia, which locks DLSS 3 frame-gen to the RTX 40 series, and is game-specific.
Fluid Motion Frames 2 is available as a technical preview
AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames (known as AFMF) is a driver-level tool that is integrated into the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and HYPR-RX. Now, AMD has released an improved iteration – Fluid Motion Frames 2 – to deliver an even better experience with AI algorithms and overall advanced tech.
According to AMD’s official post, the AFMF 2 will bring even more customization and optimization options to the feature. Here are some of the highlights:
- AI-enhanced performance: With AI algorithms, optimal settings are automatically enabled for the two new modes. However, users can also adjust them as per their preferences.
- New Performance Mode: AFMF 2 introduces a new “Performance” mode that aims to deliver high frame rate gaming on various types of devices, especially those with integrated graphics. AMD Ryzen processors with Radeon Graphics are now default to this mode.
- Lower Latency: The latest version substantially decreases the delay between actions and on-screen responses, providing a more responsive gaming experience across all settings and hardware configurations.
OpenGL and Vulkan now support AFMF
In addition to this, the AFMF 2 works with games that run OpenGL and Vulkan – the earlier version was limited to DX11 and DX12. Plus, along with support for fullscreen mode, users also get support for borderless fullscreen while using AMD Radeon RX 7000 and Radeon 700M series GPUs.
At the moment, Fluid Motion Frames 2 is available to compatible GPUs as a technical preview on a separate driver. Users with Radeon RX 6000, RX 7000, and Radeon 7000. In the official post, AMD also mentioned that the AFMF 2 will be supported on Ryzen 8000G, its latest range of APUs with integrated graphics.
In addition to the new AFMF 2 update, AMD FSR 3.1 support was recently added to more games, and it outdid NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 in some instances. Plus, AMD also released a ‘Frame Latency Meter’ tool to get an idea of your system’s latency.
