AMD’s GPUOpen team has unveiled a new software tool designed to let gamers measure the responsiveness of their mouse inputs. The Frame Latency Meter (FLM) will gather data based on in-game events, which will allow users to optimize their system and improve their overall gaming experience.

As soon as the tool is activated, FLM starts monitoring and measuring the mouse's response times along with the refresh rates. For these measurements, FLM uses codes like the AMF (Advanced Media Framework) for AMD GPUs and the DXGI for third-party graphic cards.

This latency data gathered by FLM can be exported to a CSV file, which the user can use to analyze their mouse latency and optimize the system accordingly. As per the official announcement, the tool gives users detailed statistics for latency and “effective framerate” measurements.

Some of the features of the FLM include –

  • Precise latency analysis: Accurately measures mouse response times for in-depth performance evaluation.
  • Optimization based on data: Generates detailed latency statistics that can be exported for analysis.
  • Wide compatibility: Supports both AMD (AMF) and non-AMD (DXGI) graphics cards.
  • User-friendly customization: Allows users to set custom hotkeys and capture regions for tailored testing.
  • Captures detailed statistics: Captures frame sequences based on user-defined triggers for comprehensive analysis.
  • Easy integration: Compatible with Windows operating systems for easy use.

Another highlight of this tool is that it can keep running under any circumstances and produces “unlimited data sampling” to deliver accurate results. This sets it a class above NVIDIA’s LDAT (Latency And Display Analysis Tool).

AMD’s FLM represents a significant step forward in latency measurement technology. The launch of FLM comes right after AMD announced its collaboration with Twitch, which enabled Enhanced Broadcasting for RDNA 3 and RDNA 2 GPUs. Overall, it looks like AMD is rolling out solutions for the gaming community.
