Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR are both effective for improving your framerate. Generally speaking, Nvidia has the edge, but now it’s becoming debatable as to whether FSR or DLSS is more efficient. Today, we’re specifically talking about each brand’s frame-generation technology, as recent tests put AMD on top, surprisingly.
In some recent game benchmarks posted online, a user found out that AMD’s FSR 3.1 frame generation delivered better performance than NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 frame generation in some aspects. FSR was much more adept at delivering better framerates in Spider-Man Miles Morales in 4K than its Nvidia counterpart, using an Nvidia graphics card no less – the RTX 4070.
AMD FSR is better at frame generation than NVIDIA DLSS in Spider-Man: Miles Morales
According to a post on X, AMD FSR 3.1 was better at frame generation than Nvidia’s DLSS 3. The test was done on Spider-Man: Miles Morales using an RTX 4070 graphics card. When playing the game in 4K, FSR 3.1 boosted framerate generation by 46%, and DLSS dropped it by 12% when compared to DLSS without FG. X user Sebastian explained that AMD’s performance was due to the fact that FSR 3.1 was “more VRAM efficient” compared to DLSS.
These findings were initially found in a report on Computer Base – a German tech website. During the Ultra HD (4K) test, they mentioned that the Spider-Man title always had a problem with FSR Super Resolution and flickered, which has now improved with FSR 3.1. The ghosting was still present, but it was better compared to the previous FSR generations. However, DLSS 3 was much better in this regard, as it accelerated the quality by 46%.
When it came to frame generation, AMD’s FSR 3.1 fared better. With the RTX 4070 as well as the Radeon RX 7800 XT, FSR 3.1 boosted frame generation by 46% and 69%, respectively. Meanwhile, NVIDIA’s DLSS surprisingly causes the rates to drop by 12%.
In any case, AMD launched FSR 3.1, a major update to its technology, back in March 2024. At that time, we predicted that this upgrade would help AMD compete with NVIDIA’s DLSS. Since then, AMD has been expanding FSR 3.1 support to more and more games, with a mobile iteration of FSR on the way too. Plenty of great news for Team Red as of late.
