Linux devices and mini PCs have become increasingly popular over the past few years, especially among developers, tinkerers, and cybersecurity enthusiasts. Now, a new Raspberry Pi-powered device called the CardputerZero is preparing to enter the market, and reservations are already open for those interested in grabbing one early and securing a cheaper price tag.

The creators describe the CardputerZero as a “pocket Linux lab,” and that description fits it pretty well. The device is built to offer a portable Linux experience that you can carry around almost anywhere. It is designed for command-line tools, SSH access, Python coding, edge AI tasks, cybersecurity experiments, and even hardware tinkering.

You can now essentially pre-order the CardputerZero

One of the biggest highlights is that it gives users a proper Linux environment in an extremely compact form factor. At just 85x54mm, it’s the size of a standard credit card. The device lets users connect to remote servers through SSH, edit files using tools like Vim, run Git commands, and test scripts directly from the handheld itself. Instead of needing a full laptop for small Linux tasks, the CardputerZero aims to provide a simpler portable option that will literally fit in your wallet.

The device also focuses heavily on AI and automation features. According to the creators, lightweight edge AI tools such as OpenClaw can run directly on the device, allowing users to test AI agents and automation workflows locally. This could make it useful for developers who want portable AI testing hardware without carrying around a larger system.

Another interesting part is the built-in app and firmware system. Users can upload their own projects, try community-made firmware, and switch between different setups directly on the device without needing to reflash it through a PC.

  • Raspberry Pi Compute Module 0
  • Quad-core Cortex-A53 processor running at 1GHz
  • 512MB LPDDR2 memory
  • microSD card slot
  • 1.9-inch LCD display

Right now, the CardputerZero is still in its pre-launch phase. Users can reserve a Super Early Bird spot before the Kickstarter campaign goes live in mid-to-late May. According to the creators, early buyers will be eligible for special pricing starting at $59 (CardputerZero Lite) or $89 (CardputerZero). MSRPs for the two models are $99 and $149, respectively.
