ASUS’s ROG Ally X is almost here and – while many of us are getting our teeth into the confirmed specifications and how that may affect its performance – some users are annoyed that the latest handheld arrival may be moving away from its unique white design.
The ‘official’ ASUS ROG Ally X specifications were finally leaked yesterday, with some exciting aspects confirmed – like 24GB of memory and double battery capacity. The leak (originally reported by Videocardz) also came with an image of the new ROG Ally X, which showcased a new black aesthetic.

That’s right, it looks like ASUS is ditching its unique white design for a more Steam Deck-esque aesthetic that has some people annoyed.

Will black ruin the ROG Ally X’s uniqueness?
One Reddit user instantly voiced their opinion saying “I think this is a very disappointing decision, as for me personally part of the ROG Ally charm was having it stand out instantly from any other console with its bright white body.”.
While some people shared this opinion, the general consensus amongst fans of the console was positive, with many preferring black over white. A popular opinion from one Redditor was “I personally think the white is a garish and obnoxious color, ” with some saying fingerprints and ‘grime’ is far more noticeable on a white background – which is hard to argue with.
At the time of writing this, there is no official word on the console’s official color scheme – but the images in recent leaks would suggest black is the way the branding is moving.
Of course, there’s nothing to suggest that the console won’t offer both color schemes – I suppose we’ll have to wait and see when ASUS showcase it at this year’s Computex.
